Best Answer

It is used by utility linemen for isolation purposes. If a power line needs repair it is done de-energized. By isolating the damaged section with the isolation switches the rest of the utility customers can remain on the grid (energized) and not have to be without power until the damaged section of line gets repaired.

How do i switch a 3 phase motor from low to high voltage?

You can't. You must supply the motor with it's required voltage. If it's a dual voltage motor, follow the wiring schematic on the motor nameplate to switch from low to high voltage.

What is high voltage circuit breaker?

High voltage the switch blade must be long enough to break the arc low voltage means a smaller switch low amperage means smaller wire and contacts 120V 1/2" switch 13,200V 18" switch vacuum switches can be made smaller since there is no air to ionize

What are the differences between high voltage switch gear and medium voltage switch gear?

a switchgear is a term used with the electric power distribution system, and is basically a large switch or set of switches used in switching very high voltages at very high currents and can occasionally have arc overs, though they are ushually supressed by a number of safety measures. medium voltage probably being under 100KV but more than 5KV, but that's just a guess as to voltage ratings...

Measure the voltage across a voltmeter and a switch?

If the switch is closed (connected) the voltage across it will read 0V. If the switch is open (disconnected) the voltage across it could be anything, it just depends on what the voltage between the wires going into the switch is.

What is the function of capacitor voltage transformer at the switch yard?

function of capacitive voltage transformer is measure high transmission voltage with low range voltmeter and oprate the relay circuit to oprate CBs.

What the effect of switch on the no load transformer?

specially for high voltage operation

Is a resistor and a relay the same thing?

No, they are not the same. A resistor is a current reducer and a relay is essentially a switch (using low voltage to switch high voltage on/off)

How do you change the color of a light switch switch?

Easy, paint the exposed part the color of your choice. Hard, call a pro and have him/her install the desired colored switch....pkazsr Paint it.

Why does the electricity not cross over the switch when it is open?

The voltage potential is not high enough through design of the switch when it is open. That is why switches and receptacles have voltage ratings. Put a potential of 10000 volts across an open switch and you will have a piece of charcoal.

What is the Location of medium voltage switch gear?

A medium voltage switch gear is on the low voltage side of the transformer. This medium voltage switch is very cost efficient as well.

Which one is not correct essential future of switchgear?

The switch gears are apparatus that functions to protect and control electric gear. They also detect overload conditions. It contains circuit breakers, disconnectors or fuses. Switch gears are of three types - low voltage switch gear, medium voltage switch gear and high voltage switch gear. They provide quick operation rather than moderate operation.

What are the three main types of high voltage switching gear met with in industrial installations?

High voltage switch gear operates in the voltage range of 36 kV and above. Minimum oil circuit breaker, air blast circuit breaker and SF6 (Sulphur hexafluoride) circuit breaker are the three mostly used disconnects for high voltage switchgear.
