This is from AutoZone: "On your 1997 GMC TRUCK SAFARI VAN 2WD, the EGR VALVE is UNDER HOOD, CENTER, UPPER ENGINE AREA, FRONT OF INTAKE MANIFOLD, PASSENGER SIDE OF WATER OUTLET, MOUNTED IN INTAKE MANIFOLD."
in the valve cover. There is a hose that is connected to it.
As far as I can tell, there is no EGR valve on 1993 Ford Aerostar 3.0L engines. I have searched and found none and the vacuum hose routing decal in the engine compartment does not show an EGR valve.

Depends on the EGR valve. A good lot of them can be cleaned and reused. New ones can costs hundreds of dollars. The EGR valve works by routing a small amount of the exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber.See the Related link for more information. To clean the EGR valve, you may be required to remove the vacuum hose and clean out the carbon deposits.
It is right beside the thermostat housing, and that is where the top radiator hose hooks to the engine.
There should be an "Emissions Adjustment and Routing" label on the underside of the hood that shows a vacuum hose routing schematic and the location and name of the different emmissions control assemblies. It'll give you an idea where to look. On my '92 3.9L V6 the EGR is located on the top rear of the engine, between the throttle body and the firewall. WRONG. in 96, the dakota's did NOT have the EGR. those were in the earlier models like your 92.

You need to take the air cleaner off. Then disconnect the vacuum hose going to your brake booster at the check valve point. There is a valve (EGRC-BRT) next to the EGR remome the the clamp on the braket that is holding the brake booster hose and swing it out of your way. Next you need to remove the vacuum hose from the EGRC-BRT valve and remove the valve nad the bracket that hold the vave. Now you can get to the EGR pipe which attaches to the EGR. Remove the pipe then remove the the bolts that hold the EGR valve.
On top behind the filter hose next to the fire wall on the right side of the engine when facing the front of your SUV. There is two of them that looks a lot a like the first one you see is the egr valve the other one is egr-bt.
