I am totally unfamiliar with Canadian law however - that being said - if you contact them and make a good faith effort to return the unjust payment you may very well be granted amnesty. Once thing is for certain - if you don't return it and you are found out, you will most certainly be prosecuted.

This happened to my sister recently and she was not prosecuted, but she did have to pay back everything that she was mistakenly paid plus thousands of dollars in penalties. I believe that it is 3 times the amount of benefits you were paid, so you should have to repay a little over $13,000. They did accept arrangments to pay it off over time.
