sounds like a loose rocker arm could cause totel engein failure if not fixed Impossible to say I'm not hearing the noise. Could be a lifter; rocker arm; loose bolt on flexplate; bad rod beariong; etc. Better to er on the safe side and have someone who would know for sure listen to it before you drive it anymore. Knocks are usually bad news.
I take it this is a NON supercharged engine thus no resisiter for the fuel pump.. Another odd issue these negines has was if the spark plug wires were routed too close to the transmission speed sensor on the front of the engei nby the fire wall the plug wires would spike the speed sensor and make the engine stall.. make sure they are routed wayd from that transmission harness. You can try this laos with the engine runnimng wiggle the connctor on the mass air flow sensor and see if the car dies if so the sensor is bad... Last ditch effort is to got back to the dealer and ask them to hook up the data recorder and you can take a "snap shot" of the engein control system when it dies to see what happens..
Went to change transmission oil on my Lanos 2001. The shop told me there is no way they can access it, as there is NO transmission oil dip stick- the transmission is sealed, and can be only serviced by a dealer. My question would be: do you need at some point go to the dealer and change the transmission oil ? At what intervals? Got this beauty at 24 k miles, now have 35 k, so I thought it may be time ... that's very intresting... I have 2000 Lanos. I have trouble looking for transmission dipstick too. //////////i have a 2000 lanos hb and my manuel says that under normal driving conditions you dont have to do anything but your dealer could check it when serviced...... I just finished changing the oil on a 2000 lanos automatic transaxel as they call it! you will need to do this at 50k miles and it is no day at the picnic the car must be elevated atleast 16 inches from the floar and let me stress on safety!!! get a good jack or stand it on cinderblocks or beter yet mecanics tower. Buy the kit with the trans fluid filter and gasket seal, replacement filter fits like a charm but the ruber seal is a drag to install and the mess when you open the trans is considerable it take 12 liters of fluid and with no drain point... you get the point. I also recomend yo remove the radiator fan and replace 2 3/8'' hoses that go to the radiator from the trans for the kinda start leaking at 25k miles ans are easier to replace when the fan is out. Last but not least, you should wash the engein before you start, degreser ans a good scrub will aid you in not contaminating the trans with engein oil or grease or even sand or dust. there is a magnet on the botom pan, that should be wiped down clean with an old dry rag. you guys.
First the engin idles high in the begining till it get to a some what warm position. it is 25 yrs old. then it should idle around 1000 or a little lower. There could be an adjustment made to the timing to advance the problem. I am in the process of doing this myself tomorrow I just had to put in a coolant sensor and that made my engein idle really low and die out. Now that this day has come I had decided to spray carb cleaner into and round the carb. while reavin engine by hand. WOW WHAT A FN different this has solved th problem. mus rember yhis is old car and lots of dirt and mechinizams.... let me say tho this still a progressing process. I must now find out Y the fan now only come on when AC MAX is on. jus started after i put n coolant temp sensor. (but that did clear up dying of engine. So now what? HELP ME
