Engine smoke on your rav4 first start?

You don't mention what year it is. But i can tell you if it is between the years 1999 - 2003 you better do a search on Oil Sludge on Toyota's. You might be in store for a major engine failure. There was a class action suite on this and those years mentioned above had that symptom and the engine needed to be replaced. I am saying this because my 03 Rav4 had the oil light come on and then the check engine light. when i took it to the dealer, he said that there was sludge in the oil and that caused the lubrication not to be up to where it was supposed to be. With only 70,000 miles on it too! Their repair estimate was $6,061 for a used engine. And no, i have a good maint. record on the vehicle. A call to the dealer and to Toyota says there is nothing that is under any warranty to cover this. SO be careful.
