The Spanish Armada fought with any one who tried to dominate the high seas, whether it was the Dutch or the English, but most of the times they were defeated by the British, the /dutch also gave them a run for their money.
My best guess would be May 28 - The Spanish Armada, with 130 ships and 30,000 men, begins to set sail from Spain heading for the English Channel. With the destruction of the Armada this gave England the control of the Oceans.. Making them a superpower in the New World.
La Armada Espanola is the name for Spain's navy. It is an important part of Spain's strength in that it allows the country to defend itself at a distance from it's land mass. If you have to kill people and destroy things it is always more desirable to do so at a distance from your own country.

The Spanish Armada was made up of large and unwieldy warships. A major storm blew up and the ships were not able to maneuver in battle. The Spanish Armada was essentially destroyed and Britain became the dominant power in Europe.
It made elizabeth look really strong so that all the other countries were very impressed. It showed everone tht she did not need a powerful husband. It gave the catholics no real chance to rebel. It stopped most of the other countries from attacking after she had destroyed the spanish. It stopped the majority of the courtiers from enlessly bugging her about a husband too. I did a whole bloomin essay on this shizz.
The English navy defeated the Spanish Armada because their ships were smaller and lighter than Spain's heavy galleons. The English's navy darted around the Armada firing cannon after cannon until the Spanish finnally gave up and headed home. On their way home, however, a massive storm hit them and less than half of the fleet made it home alive.
Queen Elizabeth I gave the speech at Tilbury in 1588 to boost morale and rally her troops as they prepared to defend England against the Spanish Armada. It was meant to inspire them with her resolve and to show her commitment to leading them in battle.
