There is no best column in Excel. All columns are the same. If you are referring to the best fit, then that is based on the widest entry in a column being used to set the width of the column.

If you mean in a Word table, or something similar, "best fit" means that column widths will be adjusted according to the contents. It is not a fixed percentage. If a column contains a lot of text, that column will be made wider; if another column is almost empty, such a column will get narrower.

This is not a question, but my best guess to answer is: If the numeric data is too wide for the column, then increase the width of the column.
Best fit or AutoFit.
Double click on a column, and it will automatically make the column wide enough to fit the longest entry.
