On an attempt to reach the South Pole in 1908, all of his ponies died and he had to abandon the attempt due to heavy storms. On a second attempt to reach the South Pole in 1914, his ship was crushed by pack ice, forcing the expedition to walk 1,200 km to South Georgia. Five months later they were rescued by a Chilean warship. On a third attempt to reach the South Pole in 1921, Shackleton died from a heart condition.
Yes he did.
Ernest Shackleton didn't recieve any awards like trophies or anything...but I would say that his award would be that he reached his goal and got all his men to safety without any of them dying or getting lost. It is for that reason he is reconized as a hero. He is still remembered to tghis day for his courage, bravery, determination, ENDURANCE. Shackleton is a hero. That is the greatest award of all.
Antarctica isn't known for having any problems with water.

Sir Ernest Shackleton employed the technology of the day in all of his Antarctic treks, between 1901 and 1922. He used a sextant to navigate at sea and on the Antarctic continent. His trek supplies included weather gauges, barometers, altimeters, and basic survival tools such as camp oil cook stoves and so forth. By today's standards, his technology was pretty rudimentary.
