The US Military has been officially integrated since President Truman signed it into law in 1947. The Korean War was America's first officially integrated war (fought by a US integrated military). 1947 was also the creation of the US Air Force; and the Korean War was also the first war fought by the US Air Force.

In Vietnam, the "ethnic diversity" of US Army units in South Vietnam almost mirrored US society exactly. Another words, when visiting any city in the US, what you would see there, you would see in US Army units in South Vietnam-minus females.
