There are "frontier days" in many locations in the USA. They consist of a celebration of the settling of an area, such as Wyoming. In Wyoming, there is an annual "Cheyenne Frontier Days" celebration. The central event is a big rodeo, and there are lots of other things going on. Cheyenne Frontier Days is probably the grandest "frontier days" celebration in the USA. Lots of people. Lots of people from around Wyoming, and lots of people from Colorado (since Cheyenne is near the Colorado border, about 2.5 hours north of Denver).
Families settling on the frontier were known as homesteaders. This is because the Homestead Act granted people large plots of land if they were willing to live in the middle of nowhere.
