Even though I know my Windows XP product key works it doesn't. What is wrong?

One possibility is that your vendor loaded a ghosted image of XP onto your computer, and then gave you a set of new disks. In this case, the product keys, while both legally obtained, would not match. Call up MS -- they're pretty good about this problem usually.
