Just about anything can grow at the base of a mountain, as long as the soil, sunlight, drainage, and other conditions are right for that plant. However, the altitude will stop some plants from growing farther up. Areas of a mountain above the tree line will have very few to no trees, and the trees that do grow will bew sparse and short. Various brittle grasses and some wildflowers may grow there, and only coniferous trees will grow up to the tree line.

Some examples of mountain plants are the Rocky Mountain Juniper, the Quaking Aspen, and the dotted blazing star.

Mountain plants have adapted root systems that are naturally drought tolerant and able to survive in shallower, less uniform soil and sometimes nutrient deficient soils.

Like other mountains, there are different climates at different elevations and parts of the mountain.

  • Plants like evergreens and Ceylan ironwood grows between 600-2,400 ft.
  • Bamboo, oak, chestnut, alder at around 3,600-5,700 ft.
  • Around 4,000 species of flowering plants and 20 species of palm can be found on the Eastern side of the Himalayas
  • Tropical deciduous forest with the dominant species being the sal. Wet sal forests located on plateaus of around 3,000 feet while dry sal forests at 4,500 feet
  • Farther west, there are steppe forest (i.e., expanse of grassland dotted with trees), steppe, subtropical thorn steppe, and subtropical semi-desert vegetation.
  • Temperate mixed forest are from about 4,500 to roughly 11,000 feet
  • Alpine zone between 10,500 and 11,700 feet and extends up to about 13,700 feet in the western Himalayas and 14,600 feet in the eastern Himalayas. Juniper and Rhododendron can grow here. Mosses and lichens will grow in shaded areas at lower levels in the alpine zone where the humidity is high. Flowering plants are found at high elevations.

What is a desert biome?

I can't directly put into words what it is, but I think I can explain it a bit.First off, it'll help to know what a biome is. A biome is a region of Earth that has a particular climate and certain types of plants. There are many types of biomes. Rainforest biomes, Tundra biomes, Savanna biomes, Grassland biomes, Taiga biomes, Temperate biomes and Desert biomes. So, basically, when you are talking about a desert biome, you're talking about all the deserts on Earth.AND REMEMBER! Deserts are not always hot! There are colddeserts too!
