A scientific investigation is a method of identifying a question through observations. Next, a hypothesis is formed as a tentative explanation for the question. Third, experiments are performed to test the hypothesis. Finally, a scientific paper is written to explain the conclusions.
New experiments are performed or old experiments are repeated and confirmed or contridicted. From this expanded pool of experimental data, new or refined theories can be made, which then provide hypothesis for new experiments that will either confirm the new/refined theory or support the original theory. The process is then repeated and science marches onwards.

The ampere wasn't really discovered. It is the word given to the unit of electrical current. It is named after André-Marie Ampère (1775-1836), a French physicist that found the science of electromagnetism. In 1820, Ampère performed a series of experiments. These experiments led him to formulate the law of electromagnetism, named after him, Ampère's law, that mathematically shows the magnetic force between two electrical currents.
