There are two major reasons the Constitution of the United States has lasted so long. First, it can be amended so it can keep up as times change. Second, the Constitution is constantly being interpreted by the courts, and by the executive and legislative branches to enact laws that are "necessary and proper" for current conditions.

Why the constitution was written?

The Constitution was written to explain that everyone can fight to for their independence and it states that it was the first time Americans had their Independence. The purpose of the Constitution was to write out how the government would be set up. Prior to rebelling against their king and country the American revolutionaries had felt it necessary to spell out in the Declaration of Independence why they were taking such a serious measure. Writing a constitution, having gained their independence, was a logical next step to define, set out and explain a new style of government alien to most of the colonists. Interestingly the mother country had survived for over a thousand years without a written constitution.

What has enabled the Constitution to retain its viability for over 200 years?

The constitution has endured for over 200 years because whenever a serious problem has arisen, the people governed by it managed to make adjustments. It also has the advantage that the present people in charge do not demand that it be changed and all the laws passed under it. Thus, unlike Venezuela, the United States will not change its Constitution and its laws to please the current president. It will change some of the laws, but it will not go through and change everything. For the most part, there will be a continuum.

Why is it that in Europe and other countries when something is unfair to the people the people come together right away to protest before it does damage?

AnswerI suppose that's why Russians endured oppressive Communism for a long as they did, and Germans endured oppressive occupation for as long as they did, and Afghans endured oppressive Radical Islam for as long as they did, and the Irish have endured their political/religious war for as long as they did and the Spanish have endured the Basque conflicts for as long as they have... Looking back in history of over 2000 years of fighting oppression, it is apparent that Europeans and other countries having to endure will rise up and fight immediately. Look at the G20 recently. There is no complacency here.
