Word is a good program to start with as it obvious what the program is for - it's for producing written documents; if you start with Excel (for example) you would have to understand what a spreadsheet is. Also, knowing Word will always be a useful skill.
Having learned Word, you will understand how to use menus, and the keyboard. When you move to other Windows applications, and in particular other Microsoft applications, many of the menus and keyboard shortcuts are the same.
By working hard and knowing your job well and becoming really proficient at doing it, then you will excel at work.
