Containment of a disease is to control it that there is no new cases appearing anymore (reproductive rate = 1) Elimination of a disease is to treat the population completely leaving not even a single person suffering from the symptoms of the disease. (But the causative agent or pathogen is still in the environment, so outbreaks in the future are still possible) Eradication of the disease means that the disease doesn't exist anymore in the population (everyone is treated) as well as the causative pathogen (the microbe that caused the condition was completely destroyed) some examples: Chickenbox & Polio
