2 main causes for the Civil war were the alienation of state's rights and the stopping of slavery into new territories. The southern states had been bullied into legislation that promoted the lessening of slavery and against the raw material trade. Furthermore, the southern states were also upset that the North were not letting slavery into the new states being formed.
