How are computers used in music industries in brief?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Right now, computers produce most of the music out there. Back in the good ol' days you would do everything analog and record to a tape which was then pressed. Now everything is being done in computers with programs like Pro Tools, Garageband, Cubase, Audacity, etc.

Essentially in a reocrding studio the big console has been replaced with a computer. Granted most studios still use the console with the computer but the final product is on a hard drive, or burnt to a disc.

Aside from just the recording part of music, the ability to network with computers has really effected the music industry. Now people can find new artists on the internet. Musicians can find other musicians via sites like craigslist. I can make a song, and email it to someone to add their parts to it, and send it back to me to edit. Then we can take that and email it somewhere to be mastered, and printed. All without leaving our house.

Then you get into songs being able to be downloaded, and bought of the internet and all of that.

Computers have really changed almost everything about the music industry.

Does fl studio have any viruses?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends.

1. If you are legally purchasing it from Image Line, then no; Fl Studio is the prime program for audio production.

2. If you are pirating it, or obtaining it in other illegal forms, it very well may.

Where can you download FL Studio plugins?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

By "packs", you can download literally hundreds of free VST plugins that FL Studio will instantly recognize and use at your disposal (once located and activated by FL). If you remember where you installed the VTS Plugins folder, just drop any of those plugins there, have FL refresh the plugin list and tick it off as a useable plugin. Then just add the device as another instrument.

Keep in mind that many plugins don't use the FL Studio generic interface and most will probably not offer individual automated "edit events" options, but if used correctly, any knobs you tweak during a recording will appear as an event on playback. For some plugins that don't even have an interface, FL Studio will assume a generic one with all of the FL specific functions.

You don't need to use any additional plugins at all as FL comes with many very good ones, but if you have certain sounds in mind that you would rather not reproduce with Harmless, Sytrus, Wasp, etc., you may be able to find a plugin that has exactly the sound you are looking for it their presets.

How do you set up an Alesis SR 16 drum machine into Fruity Loops so that I can not only load the samples and presets but also be able to use the drum machine and actually record it into fruity loops?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is no way to load the preset patterns from an SR-16 into FL Studio. The SR-16 used a cassette tape for data backup, and did not transmit samples or Sysex by MIDI. You can record the audio out of the SR-16 one pad at a time, as well as recording the sound of the patterns. You won't be able to edit the patterns recorded like you can with other sounds in FL Studio.

How can you save on fruity loops demo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The demo version of any FL is save disabled, but you may still be able to downmix any unsaved projects to WAV, OGG or MP3, depending on the version you are using. Doing so will not make the audio files editable again in FL the way it was made, just as you can never unbake a cake and separate the ingredients to make it again another day.

How do you get your mic to work in FL Studio?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you want to record directly into FL Studio, use the Edison plugin where you can record, edit and save the audio file before FL automatically adds it to the project. Alternatively, you can downmix your project without the vocals and play it somewhere else so you can perform live.

What is the best recording mic?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is no definitive 'best recording microphone'. Perhaps a more valid question would be what is the best microphone for a particular situation taking into account the sound sources involved, accoustic environment, desired quality of the recorded sound and your budget.

Research into the characteristics of the various types of microphones (eg: condenser, dynamic, ribbon etc.) and the various attributes of different mics (eg: polar patterns, frequency response etc) if you haven't already done so and then research opinions and reviews of particular model(s) you may have your eye on to help conclude whether the desired mic(s) are suitable for your needs. For an introduction to microphone technology I think the page below is a good start.

It's important to note that although particular mics may be deemed 'good' or 'bad', no one microphone can be considered a 'catch all' solution.

How do you make a grime beat on fruity loops 8?

User Avatar

Asked by TinyTerror

Open your version of FL Studio and select the step sequencer in the upper right toolbar if it's not opened automatically (it's the box with 16-squares). By default there should be four samples already loaded into the step sequencer; Kick, Clap, Hat and Snare. If there isn't, you can find free drum samples online at Musicradar or FreeDrumKits and load them into FL Studio's step sequencer simply by dragging and dropping them from their folder and into the FL Studio window, over the sequencer.

From here you can program the samples into a beat by clicking the step-buttons in the sequencer and creating patterns. You can do this in real-time by pressing the Play button (or space bar). To make a simple 4/4 beat, right-click the Kick sample and select 'Fill each 4 steps', then right-click the Hat sample and select 'Fill each 2 steps' and finally right-click the Snare sample and select 'Fill each 8 steps'.

In the step sequencer you can adjust the pattern length (number of beats) and Swing as well as select the pattern you're on and edit with the graph/keyboard editor. For more information, click the Help button in the FL Studio toolbar and read the contents in 'Channel Window & Step Sequencer'.

Does fruity loops already have sounds on the demo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Every version of FL, more so with the later versions, including the demo version, come packed with synths, drum machines and effects as well as sample packs, demos and hundreds of user definable presets for each module. You get groove packs so automatically add drum groves and fill ins, preset chord generators, mastering rack... just to name a mere few, so there is no shortage of stuff to use to make a few hundred songs of different genres before you get bored. The only difference is that the demo is save disabled, but if you are willing to risk a few hours of hard work (and that's being generous for people who already know how to use it well), then you can export your final song to an MP3 or OGG file. The only thing is that you can not sell it, because you do not have the source files, nor can you sell of individual parts to DJ's to make remixes of your work.

When using samples using the fruity loops software do you need to copyright your music?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If the samples you are using are royalty free and you want to copyright your own stuff, simply keep the FL project saved and the project data, FL Studio and plugins used need to be registered to your name if you want the credit. You can not use already copyright material without permission to sell or even broadcast your work. You can also not claim any part of your work as solely your instrumental interlude if FL Studio was your host application, especially if you used legit plugins used by professionals that are often made to emulate their work as a plugin for DAW hosts.

Use the creative commons practices and save your money on copyright as it does not seem to protect anybody much nowadays. Create a very high quality downmix of your final work and do not change a thing, then present it to someone you completely trust as a "gift" with the date on it. This is a legal backup loophole to prevent anybody stealing your work. In a court of copyright law, you can produce the project files, the project itself, the registration and ownership of equipment and software (FL conveniently records time spent on projects, check project setting to see), and finally the high quality downmix your trusted friend has as evidence.

How do you fix crackling noise in FL Studio?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Polymphony but you really need a better processor

Polyphony in FL Studio is not a problem if your processor can handle 64 notes per channel. Most computers are capable of this nowadays, even low-end, but if you are hearing a crackling, there are 2 possibilities:

  1. There is too much distortion caused by overpeaked synthesis or sample data. To stop this from happening, either use the software buffer of the plugin causing the crackling if hardware can not cope or get a better plugin.
  2. The buffer length is too low and cannot handle the sync timing. This is easily fixed and the most common crackling issue. Open audio settings and increase buffer length until there are fewer to no safe overruns.

Can you use loops to make instrumental beats and then sell them?

User Avatar

Asked by Greenjack001

The answer is yes and here is 7 tips on how to sell beats online successfully

1) Get Your Beat Right

You might be able to get away with average sounding beats, but the better sounding your beats are, the more they'll be in demand, you can charge a more premium price and your popularity will increase.

Assuming that you already know how to make beats in your chosen genre, whether you're making rap beatsor making Dubstep, you need to get it sounding great by mixing the track correctly and using properly mastered sounds.

If you purchase sound kits and samples from a reputable source, the sounds will already be mastered to the highest quality, but sounds you find elsewhere may not be, so bear this in mind.

2) Sorting Out Copyright Issues

The last thing you want is to spend hours upon hours making a hot beat, only to find out that you're unable to sell it because of copyright issues.

First things first, make sure that the samples you use are royalty free. This applies to creative content (melodies, vocals, sounds etc.) you take from movies, TV shows and other songs.

3) Market Yourself

It doesn't matter if you make the sickest beats in the world, if hardly anyone can find you, then you have little chance to move many units. There's a tonne of competition online so you need to separate yourself from the rest by offering something different.

This is where good marketing comes in. You don't need to have a huge marketing budget to push your name out there, because you can still build a good momentum without it.

A few ideas include:

  • Build a website to showcase who you are and your music. This is a must for this day and age. One of the best and easiest web building platforms is WordPress (which is what I used to build this site!).
  • Create a brand around your music and be consistent with the theme. This allows people to easily identify who you are.
  • Upload your music to Youtube, which is a huge platform for people to hear your stuff. It's a good idea to overlap your beat with some repeating vocals stating your brand. For example, "Make Beats Forever, the best guide to making the hottest beats!". This way, people cannot steal your instrumental.

We often hear stories about great marketing strategies that barely cost any money to produce, yet they still create a huge buzz. This goes to show that a little creativity can go a long way.

If you want to find out step-by-step how to market your music production brand online to make more money, I highly recommend you to check out the How To Sell Beats Online Like A Pro course (read my full review here).

4) List Your Beats

If you have your own website (which I highly recommend), you can sell your beats on there. All you need is an online shopping cart installed and an online payment processer such as Paypal, then you're in business. The great thing about selling beats on your own website is that you have full control over how it's all presented and there are no commission fees.

Another option is to use other online platforms to sell your beats such as SoundClick.com (probably the largest community),BeatBrokerz.com, BeatStars.com and RocBattle.com.

They all have different commission structures and presentations so you should visit as many as you can and list down the most suitable for you. You should list your beats on as many suitable platforms as possible to increase your chances of selling more.

5) Decide Between Lease & Exclusive

When you start selling your beats, you'll come across two methods of selling them - Lease and exclusive.

  • Lease: Loan your beat out to music artists as many times as you want for a low price.
  • Exclusive: Sell your beat once to a single artist for a premium price.

In the world selling beats online, leasing your beats is far more effective than selling it exclusively. This is because someone is far likelier to purchase a beat he just heard for $20 rather than for $200.

Plus, when you lease your beat, you can sell the same beat 10+ times at $20 a pop and make $200+ anyway. Combine this with the fact that you can cross over different platforms and sell the same beat, this equals to a lot of money in your wallet.

6) Give Away Free Beats

You may want to consider giving away some of your beats for free if it means that you'll gain more exposure. For example, a prominent rapper or DJ may listen and like one of your beats, so you can strike a deal with them. In exchange for them using your beat, you have to be credited and/or given a shout out on the track.

You can also create a list of free beats and market those. You'll find that many artists will jump on the track and do a freestyle over them, and if you're fortunate, a well-known artist may just end up using them also.

7) Build Long Term Relationships

You need to network effectively if you want be successful at selling beats online. Use social mediaplatforms such as Youtube, Facebook, Reddit, Google+ and Twitter to really get your name out there and start building long-term relationships.

The more people who know and recognize your work, the better your business will be. You can then sell your beats directly to different music artists for a higher price, and perhaps even work together with them to produce a track.

It's all fine and dandy selling your beats on beat selling websites solely for making a bit of money, but if you really want repeat customers and build your brand, then you need to think of building a clientele of artists to work with.
