Is it possible a puggle can get the traits of a beagle?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Likely not. The deformed legs and head structure bred into the pug will always be a handicap to the ability of the animal to hunt. Pugs were bred to be beloved pets, not to hunt. It would be unfair to ask the animal to do so, even if it had the "nose" and instinct. It might easily overheat and injure legs. Why don't you get a small bird dog? There are plenty of great, small hunting breeds available just as easy to take care of and your mixed breed dog would have a friend. Go to the AKC website and look at the pictures and read about them. Purebred pups from decent breeders aren't that expensive if they aren't going to be show quality. You might as well start out with a good one! Or there are many purebred rescue organizations just waiting for you to call. the AKC website has links to them too. ANSWER: First, there is no such thing as a "puggle" despite what is advertised in the paper. And most likely this mix would not make a good bird dog. For one tthing, beagles are known rabbit dogs, not bird dogs.

Can Beagles breed with Puggles?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Any intact dog (not spayed or neutered) can breed with any other dog, no matter the breed. "Puggles" are not a dog breed, rather they are a popular cross between a Beagle and a Pug.

Because Puggles are not a breed, there isn't a standard description of what a Puggle will look like, or what size it might be. Because of this, if the dog favors it's Pug heritage more than it's Beagle side, delivering a litter of puppies may be complicated, expensive, and possibly life threatening. If you are considering breeding a female Puggle, you should have her examined by your vet who can inform you if breeding her would require a c-section to deliver her pups.

Are puggles a good dog for a person with allergies?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I sure think so, I have a rare asthma condition were I'm allergic to 75% of everything. I have a pug right now and have never had any problems with it. So yes I think if you have allergies you don't have anything to worry about if you get a pug the only thing I'd worry about is the loose hair, but lint rollers easily pick up short pug fur.
