The United Kingdom and Russia were the countries with the two largest empires in the world, meaning the most claimed land. However, Spain and the United Kingdom could be tied because the two countries both claimed all of the Americas (of course these claims were unrealistic and not recognized).

The bridge "rose" from the ocean as vast amounts of ocean water became tied up in the enormous glaciers of the last ice age. That exposed the broad continental shelves now covered by the Bering Strait and created the land bridge. The bridge last arose around 70,000 years ago. For years, scientists thought it disappeared beneath the waves about 14,500 years ago, toward the end of the last ice age. Unfortunately, that was about 2,500 years before the first accepted date for human settlement in the new world.

Sharecroppers were often trapped by high interest rates charged by landowners for essential items like tools, seeds, and food, creating cycles of debt that were difficult to escape. Additionally, sharecroppers were often paid low wages, making it challenging to save enough money to leave the system. Discriminatory laws and lack of access to education or alternative employment opportunities further limited their ability to break free from the cycle of sharecropping.

A tied cottage is housing provided by an employer to an employee, typically at no or minimal rent, i.e., the housing is "tied" to the employment. The term is usually used in connection with British agricultural employment, where the farmer may provide a tied cottage to a farm hand for as long as the farm hand is employed by the farmer.
The Franks had a feudal social system, where land was owned by lords and worked by peasants in exchange for protection. There was a hierarchy of nobility, clergy, and commoners, with the king at the top. This system was characterized by obligations and loyalty tied to land ownership.
