Look in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose
All modern (1990+) Subaru engines have the thermostat located in a housing at the bottom of the engine. Follow the lower radiator hose to find the housing. There are 2 bolts holding it on the engine block.
place the thermostat with the pointed facing out-ward away for the motor.
well i have a 97 legacy but if you have a 2.2 ltr engine then it will b in the same spot. my thermostat is located where the bottom rad hose goes into the engine block. if u look u should c the thermostat housing there with 2 bolts holding it in place.

There is no such thing as a 1995 subaru outback, the outback package was not offered on a subaru legacy until 1996, you either have a 1996 subaru outback, or you have a 1995 subaru Legacy L or LSI wagon. Both will be covered in most guide books you can pick up at your local autoparts store.
Mounted inside the fuel tank on the top.
in the engine bay. Passenger side. Near the strut tower.
If you have a 2.5 liter engine it is located where the lower radiator hose meets the engine.
