If the vehicle has a lien, the title shouldn't be lost, the lienholder should have it. Once the vehicle is paid in full, they will mail you the title.

How can you find the lien holder information if you lost your title?

Contact the DMV for a replacement title. When you do this, they should also be able to give you the name of all lien holders on the vehicle. This is the easiest way.

If you have not paid your car payments for over 3 years can you file a lost title and sell or get the title?

No, you can only replace a lost title. If the vehicle had a lien from the bank, a replacement title will still show the lien.

How do you get a car title with no title?

Take the car to your local DMV and request a duplicate title. They will explain the process. If you are wanting a title on a vehicle passed thru relatives, or many hands it is easier to do a lien for the storage of the vehicle than try to hunt down people that have moved or are unlocatable. Lost title form is pink and you CAN try that - time is why we do the lien for storage, also so no fees for bonding around silent title will be needed (CA answer)

Can i Buy a car with no papers?

You can get a bill of sale, which only entitles you to possess it. You can't get it registered without the title. If you're buying a vehicle with "no title" or "lost title", you may have a car with a large lien from a bank or finance company on it.

Can you import a vehicle into Canada that has a lien on it?

How can you find out if there is a lien against your property Pennsylvania?

AnswerLook at the Title. If there is a lien it should be listed, but even then you should check with your DMV/MVD or a 3rd party title agency for a title/lien check. (Current cost at MVD in AZ $3.00)

Does a mechanic's lien include a car?

In most states the person who repairs a vehicle has an artisan's lien. An artisan's lien is a possessory lien meaning that a) no recording of any document is required to obtain the lien, however b) the lien is only good while it is in your possession. If you return the vehicle to the owner you have lost your lien. If the owner takes the vehicle without your consent, your lien is not defeated, however, in most states the act of taking the vehicle from you will be considered theft by the vehicle owner.

What do you do if a car title has a lien on it and the title is lost?

Apply for a replacement or duplicate. You can apply for a replacement, but the title will most likely be sent to the lien holder. If that happens, you need to call the lien holder to let them know that it will be coming and to let you know when they get it. If it is sent to you, then you will need to take it to the lien holder and have them sign off on it again.

You went to DMV to get a lost title and found out there was a lien on it and you had the origanal pay off title and there were no mechanical liens?

Request from the DMV the lien holder's name and address. With this you can contact them and request the nature of the lien. This should give you some idea the reason for the lien and help you determine the legality of it.
