Some jurisdictions bring ALL offenders to the county jail, and most large cities have a city jail where persons arrested for traffic violations and city/local ordinances are held.
EXAMPLES: You are arrested inside the city limits of Atlanta (By the City Police dept)., Georgia for Burglary (16-7-1) which is a state law violation (it's a felony, but a misdemeanor would be the same). You are transported to the County jail for processing, and after this is finished (2-5 hours), you will go before a magistrate judge and have a bond hearing.
