First and second gear work fine until it shifts into drive after it is shifted into drive it is like there is nothing is the transmission bad or is it a sensor oreven the shift cable?

i would say to change the distributor cap and rotor and possibly fuel filter. with my 96 first and second worked until it shifted to over drive then it seemed like i had absolutely no power at all
