Find out what vin numbers correspond to the rare type of trans am you're looking for (you're implying there were only 26 made) and compare your vin number to it.
the vin should be on the dash board drivers side next to the windshield if not there look on the firewall drivers side there should be a cawl plate
It might be hard to see. It is located by where the ignition coil pack mounts. The trans VIN and engine vin are ajacent to each other. I think is the last 8 or nine of the VIN. If it says RDOT, it is a replacement engine.
call Chevy dealer parts dept .with your vin number they can tell you exactly what you have in your truck moter trans gear ratio ect.
Vin Diesel Vin Diesel
1978 pontiac Trans Am 400 "Z" vin code
You should be able to tell by your vin # on the dash and the stamping on the block on the engine passenger side by the freeze plugs, the year should match.
VIN numbers were first assigned in 1954. The purpose of the VIN number is to identify a car should the need arise. For example, if a car is stolen and later found the VIN can be used to find its owner.
A 78 Trans Am was available from the factory with three different engines. Two different versions of the Pontiac 400 cubic inch. both of them are denoted by a 'Z' in the 5th place in the VIN. The other engine that was available was an Oldsmobile supplied 403 cubic inch. This engine is identified by a 'K' in the fifth digit in the VIN. If the car has a manual trans it does NOT have the 403, if an auto trans it could have any of the three engines. The 403 was the only choice for a car sold new in CA or high altitudes.
first you have to know what the vin number is for like a soda macine on what then i will be able to help you!
