1. Jack up the vehicle and remove the tire. Remember to set the brake, use chock blocks and jack stands. 2. You will need a second jack under the A-arm, remove the cotter pin and nut on the upper or lower ball joint. 3. Using a "pickle" fork (a special tool used to separate ball joints), place the fork between the ball joint and the mount. Hit with hammer until the joint seperates. 4. Replace new joint in reverse order of removal.
if it is flopping all around then you need to tear it down to the ball joint and you do need special tools
