Thats a good question, but I'll have to answer as best i can. The majority of the foods they eat are meat. In fact, its the only food they really hae acsess to, as you can't farm in the steppe, and there certainly is no other vegetation than the grass on the ground. Thus, raising animals in a nomadic lifestyle in the only way to obtain your own food. In past times, however, I beleive it was common for steppe peoples in Mongolia and other places to do yearly raids on Chinese and other villages for grain and foods other than meat to supplement their diet.
