For 98 Avalon air bag light stays on also your cruise control and horn does not work you think the wiring in the steering column must be broken How do you check and replace this wiring?

I just took my Avalon in for the same reason. It is the ABS speed sensor or he also called it the spiral sensor which also involves the horn. If your light stays on the sensor is inoperative and will not deploy the air bag. I am looking to see about getting the cost of this repair lowered with Toyota. This is very UNCOMMON. I never use the horn. I too am looking for alternative solutions but I must get it repaired. Good Luck and I hope that this adds a piece to your puzzle.

An on line search will have many hits bec there are more Camrys then Avalons, and broken handles happen often enough. The plastic gets brittle and wears out.
