Pericles was the ruler of Athens during it's "Golden Age. " After the war against the Persians, Athens was in ruins. His reconstruction programs rebuilt the city and many of the famous temples.
Pericles accomplished his three main goals: beautification, protection, and democracy. He built the Parthenon which is a high building for Athenians to hide in times of ancient war. Pericles also made Athens known for their arts and literature as well as being the leader of the democrats for many years. No one wanted a different leader so he kept running for that position.
Pericles was an Athenian Statesman, he lived in time of the Anicent Athens as he produced democracy and built many famous buildings still standing today.
Pericles did not rule Athens - it was a democracy so the people ruled - attending assemblies every couple of weeks to vote on legislation. Pericles was effectively First Citizen, that is he wielded a lot of influence, but not so much that he had to orchestrate the exile of Thucydides son of Melesias who had organised a political party (first one on record) to oppose him in the assembly. Pericles' influence began in the 450s BCE, and ended with his death in 429 BCE.
Because Pericles thought Athens was better than all the other city states in Greece. he helped found many school and he even founded his own school.
It was also called the "Periclean Age". This is because the leader of Athens at this time, Pericles, did many good things to help rebuild Greece.
They were elected each year, one from each tribe. So in Pericles' time of 20 years, there were many, including Pericles himself.
A time when Pericles decided to strengthen Athens' democracy, beautify Athens, and he wanted to build a better navy. he also wanted to do many other things. have a nice day

Pericles was important because he let all of the male citizens vote and run what they were best at whether they were poor or rich. He believed that if are good at what you like to do, you get the job. He also improved the democracy of Athens and built the Acropolis. He led the Athenian army in the Second Sacred War, the Capture of Gallipoli, the capture of Euboea, and the Samian War. So, in conclusion, Pericles was very important to Athens because he improved many things but, sadly, because of his death, Athens lost their empire.
