33 explorers and scientists started the National Geographic Society. Gardiner Greene Hubbard was its first president. Alexander Graham Bell was his son-in-law and he succeeded him in 1897.
Alexander Graham Bell is the man that made the first practical telephone. An interesting side note is, at the age of 31, Bell became one of the founders of the National Geographic Society.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephoneississ. He tutored Hellen Keller. He opened a School for Teachers of the Deaf in Boston, Massachusetts. He, as well as others, started The National Geographic Society, and he served as its president for several years. He developed a method of making phonograph records on a wax disk. He made an iron breathing lung, and a device for locating icebergs at sea. He invented a hydrofoil, which set a world speed record of over 100MPH. Also, as a child he was very very very talented at piano!!!!!!!!!!!!
