In 1975, Frank Lucas was arrested in New Jersey by detective Richie Roberts and was convicted of both federal and New Jersey state drug violations. The following year he was sentenced to 70 years in prison. Once convicted Lucas provided evidence that led to more than 100 further drug-related convictions. He cooperated with Richie Roberts --the detective that had previously arrested him-- and as a result his sentence was reduced from 70 years to 15.
