The Sun and the Moon gravitational pull on the earth causes high and low tides which give the ocean waves their energy.

Ocean waves get their energy from wind blowing across the surface of the water. When the wind contacts the water, some of its energy is transferred.

Surface waves, like water, are mainly created by wind blowing over it. Storms can produce large waves usually because of wind and low or changing barometric pressures. Although, disturbances like earthquakes can create waves too.

How does energy from earthquake reach earth surface?

Why are Love waves and Rayleigh waves more destructive than P-waves and S-waves?

Love and Rayleigh waves are also known as surface waves as they travel along the surface of the earth. As the earth's surface is a free boundary, these surface waves have a larger amplitude than P and S (or body waves)which travel through the earth's interior. The amplitude of a wave is related to the amount of energy it has, where high amplitude waves have more energy! This means that the high amplitude high energy surface waves are capable of transferring more energy into structures or other objects on the surface and so can do more damage.

How does the energy from an earthquake reach the surface earth?

in the form of body waves known as p (compressional waves) and s waves (shear waves). the energy of the earth quake also produces surface waves which have long amplitudes and short frequencies causing them to be extremely destructive
