The earth formed roughly 5 billion years ago out of the huge accretion disk of dust gas and rubble that formed around the sun. It is theorized that solar winds blew most of the gases farther out from the sun, leaving more rocky materials to coalesce into the inner planets. The gases formed the gas giants Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
