The Punic Wars(264 B.C. - 146 B.C.) began as a conflict between the Rome and Carthage-two powerful empires of the time, on opposite sides of the Mediterranean Sea. In 246 B.C., Carthage grasped for control of the northeastern tip of Sicily and the Romans reacted by attacking with a navy. To be short, after a series of conflicts which we remember as the 2nd and 3rd Punic Wars, Rome annihilated Carthage in 146 B.C. ,burning the city to the ground and sowing the fields with salt.
