Dogs do not sweat from their necks or bodies like humans do. They are different. They sweat from their tongues and from their pads and feet.

Dogs have 2 types of sweat glands. The first type is called merocrine glands. These are located in the foot pads of dogs (and cats) and function to help cool the animal. The second type is called apocrine glands. These are located on most of the rest of the dog (and cat) but they do not function to cool the animal. Their purpose is to release pheromones.

Dogs have sweat glands, but unlike people, they aren't used much for thermoregulation (an exception would be the American Hairless Terrier which sweats much like a human, all over its body). Dogs get most of their thermoregulation (when overheated) by panting. The dog's tongue is generally thin and contains many blood vessels close to the surface. The blood is cooled mostly by the evaporation of saliva from the tongue.

The majority of a dog's sweat glands are located between the pads on its paws. Dogs also have some concentration of sweat glands around the nose, though the wet nose of a dog is usually the result of fluid from the mucosa of the nose.

Dogs also have apocrine sweat glands that release sweat into the hair follicles. They're generally believed to deliver phermones and are not used for thermoregulation.
