The group of Native Central Americans known to us as the Aztec are made up of a number of smaller groups, the largest, and most important of which is probably the Mexicans. None of these groups refer to themselves as Aztecs. This group of people claims to have originated to the north of the Valley of Mexico, in a place called Aztlan, migrating south to the Valley in 1200-1250 CE.
