The meaning of the word fruit can be a botanical or culinary one. With that being said, the zucchini is a fruit botanically speaking (from a biological point of view). However, in terms of their uses in the kitchen (culinary purpose), the zig-zag vine, of which its fruit has an orange-like flavor, and the ziziphus, an alternate name for the jujube, are fruits beginning with the letter 'z'.
