The problem is either with the sensor in the fuel tank or in the wiring from the tank to the gauge.
I have the same problem. turn the key on and the gage goes up past full and stays there.
I started at the fuel tank and worked my way back to the dash board. I have had the dash console out many times for this problem. No go. The other day while under the dash board with the key on. Remove the fuse panel cover. I reached up to the right side of the steering colum and gently moved the wiring harness around. Then to the left of the steering colum same thing . the gas gage started comming down to 1/2 full. when i moved the truck it went back up to full.
I think I will find the answer next week when i trace the wire from the gage. and put a bypass wire to the old fuel tank sensor i have siting on the front seat. got my fingers crossed
Usually it is the sending unit in tanks. They get corroded, you either have to replace whole pump unit or take sending unit apart and clean up corrosion and contact points.
replace the fuel float inside the gas tank.
Sounds like a wiring or sender unit problem. Ground wire at sender unit, see if it stays steady. If it still jumps around, wiring/gauge problem. If it stays steady, sender unit should be replaced. Good idea to do an oil pressure test as well.
sounds like your gauge is broken or there is a short in wiring
a lot of 3.1 engines do this, if it is not severe then it should be ok...
bleed the brakes. check fluid level
Check the crank sensor. I had a 98 cirrus that wouldn't start and that was the problem
Could be you need diagnostics reset or catalytic converter on the way out
Relaced the washer motor and it still does not work? Check the fuse, if it is good then you have a bad connection somewhere.
that is rather unusual i would ask the dealership you brought it from and ask them and then go from there. Some vehicles have two temp sending units, one for the temp gauge and one for the ecm. The one for the gauge generally has one wire going to it, the one for the ecm may have two wires going to it.
maybe ignition modual
