Fuel leak on an 1997 4x4 f350 auto 7.3 deisel.the fuel leak is in the back of the engine coming from under the injector pump some where.the banjo bolt seals are good.no fuel is in the front part.?

ok, i have had this problem on several of these trucks. on the back side of the pump, there is a part. this has a lever in it for the water seperator. i do not know what this part is called. this part also has a filter in it which clogs up.you can buy a new part for about $60--00.or you can remove this part , clean it and clean the tiny filter screen in it with a tooth brush, and replace the old part.if this is the part that is leaking this will usually fix it it. this part is a pain to get off, and back on again but it can be done without removing anything else. if this does not fix the problem, then you need to buy a new pump. thses pumps have come down in price since i first had to replace one but still a couple hundred bucks.now if you have to remove this pump, make sure at time of purchase that you buy the 2 "O" rings that go on the fuel lines where they go into the heads. note also that these fuel lines when putting back to gether are the first things that need to be connected.do not, i repeat do not attack the exhaust and turbo to remove as the book says. with a little perserverance you can change this pump with out removing them. you will have to remove the air intake to turbo,but not the exhaust. the given time in a shop to change this pump out is 12 hours because of the crap they say yo have to remove. you can change this pump out in less than 2 hours you will need to remove the fuel filter housing to get at the banjo bolt and to get at the fuel lines under neath it as i said a little perserverance and this pump can be changed out without pulling your truck apart it is a pain in the a-- job but it can be done so try the little filter thingy first cost wise, i would clean out the old one.if that fixes th problem ,then if ya want to replace new one go ahead, is still easier and cheaper than a pump.PS: the book doesnt show a real lot abot changing out the pump and nothing about the ittle filter pump. if you need more explaing on this , dont hesitate to post again. this is a difficult problem to explain with out pictures
