Fuel pump relay is stuck. Replace it.
The fuel pump keeps running with the ignition off because it needs to be replaced. ?æThere could possibly be something wrong with the wiring.
The relay could be stuck.
fuel pump keeps running after the key is out what do I need to check I have to remove the fuses to stop the pump.
No, but it can stop the fuel pump from running. It has nothing to do with ignition.
Is your fuel pump running? Turn the ignition on without starting the engine. You should hear the pump run for a few seconds. If not, then check the fuel pump fuse and relay. If it is running and no fuel, replace the fuel filter. If the fuse and relay are good, and the pump is not running, the pump is bad.
Disconnect the harness at the fuel pump and replace the fuse. If your fuse doesn't blow after turning the ignition on, you probably have a bad fuel pump, check it for shorts.
if the fuel pump is still running with the ignition off it means that somehow the pump is still receiving power either someone has rewired it incorrectly or there is a short somewhere allowing power to cross over to the fuel pump
Is the fuel pump actually running. Turn the ignition to the on position without starting the engine and you should hear the pump run for a few seconds. If you do not check the fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay. If they are both good replace the fuel filter as it may be clogged. Lastly, it is possible that new fuel pump is defective. Is the fuel pump actually running. The distributor don't, But the ignition module that is bolted inside of the distributor does have a part in the fuel pump running.
First off check the fuel pump fuse to make sure it is not blown. The best thing to do is just replaced the relay to make sure that is not the problem. If you can hear the pump run with the ignition to the on position, engine not running then it may be good. But it is possible the pump is running and not pumping fuel. A fuel pressure test at the fuel rail will verify the condition of the pump.
First off make sure the pump is actually running. Have a helper turn the ignition key to the on position without starting the engine. With the fuel filler door open and cap off listen at the fuel tank and you should hear the pump run for a few seconds and then shut off. If you do not hear the pump running check the fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay. If they are both good then the fuel pump is defective. Even if the relay & fuse are good and the pump is running that does not necessarily mean it is actually pumping fuel. The fuel filter can be clogged or the pump may be running but not pumping fuel. A fuel pressure test at the fuel rail with a pressure gauge will verify the condition of the pump.
Bad fuel shut-off solenoid. I FOUND ON MY CHEVY S-10 THAT THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH WILL FEED THE FUEL PUMP EVEN WITH THE KEY OFF
