Most vehicles that have been manufactured in the past ten years have the fuel pump located in the fuel tank. The pumps are electric and the manufactures place them there because it is easier to "push" a liquid rather than "pull" it. Also because the electric pumps get hot and the fuel keeps them cool. Go figure.
