It can be anywhere from 8mpg city to 20mph highway and with real knowledge of timing/tuning/tricks one can achieve 20mpg city/30mpg highway with a 304, but that's not trying to be first off the line at the stop light.

With conscious driving habits, a well timed & tuned, good running 304 or 345 with 2bbl, you can expect to see about 16mpg. With fuel injection it doesn't go up much further... maybe 18mpg tops. They weigh in at 5400-6200 pounds, so it isn't that great stock... takes skill and knowledge to improve while keeping the weight.
