The Battle of Bull Run was part of the America Civil War and was fought on July 21, 1861 in William County, Virginia. The Union was defeated by the Confederate states.
There was only one person who was important to the Confederacy: Thomas Jackson, or Stonewall Jackson. He guided the Confederate troops to victory when the armies backed away.
Chancellorsville (May 1863) A brilliant victory that demonstrated Lee's two greatest talents - wrong-footing the enemy by refusing to fight on a field of their choosing, and ordering fast, bold, nimble attacks carried out by Stonewall Jackson. Stonewall, of course, was killed at this battle.
General Robert E. Lee believed that by reinforcing Stonewall Jackson at Staunton, Jackson would be able to defeat Union General Fremont's army in detail. With General Fremont defeated in such a manner, Lee believed Jackson could cut General McClellan's lines of supply and communications, while Lee challenged McClellan's forward forces in battle on the Peninsula.
The first battle of Bull Run had Confederate general Stonewall Jackson at the command of the South's forces. It was also known as the Battle of Manassas. This battle is regarded as the first battle between two civilian armies. The battle took place on July 21, 1861. At this time, the Confederacy only had volunteers and the Union only had a standing army of 16,000. Stonewall scored a major upset against the poorly led Union army. With this victory, Jackson was promoted to Major General.
The US Civil War Battle of Chancellorsville was a huge victory for the Confederacy under General Robert E. Lee. He beat the leader of the Army of the Potomac, John Hooker. Lee lost his best general when Stonewall Jackson was killed. Because of his victory at Chancellorsville, Lee decided to push forward to Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Hooker was replaced by George Meade.

He was accidently shot by one of his own men on May 2, 1863. He survived, but the injury was severe enough to require the amputation of his arm. Jackson eventually died of pneumonia eight days later.
