It depends what you mean by 'giving first aid'. You can use the general DR AB and DR ABCD DR ABC - D - Danger - is there any danger around you that could harm you or the casualty more? R - Response - gently tap and call the causlties name, does he/she respond? A - Airway - 2 fingers top of head, 2 fingers under chin, lift head back, open mouth, is there anything obstucting the airway? B - Breathing - Is the casualty breathing? Cheek above causlty's mouth, look down chest, can you feel the causlty's breath on you cheek? Can you see the casualty's chest rising and falling? DR ABCD is the same, but: When you feel no air on your cheek from the casualty C - Compressions - 5 rescue breaths, then 30 compressions, then 2 rescuebreaths, then 30 compressions, then 2 rescue breaths etc until casualty starts breathing normally or until a 999 crew get there. D - Defibrillator - An electrical device placed on the casualty body to shock their heart back to life - should only be used by a trained person ('999', trained first aiders etc) There are lots of websites to go on, and I recommend the BBC FIRST AID WEBSITE. If you type into a search engine (Google) 'BBC first aid' and there should be lots of videos and questions and other interactive items that can help you. The info ive given you is VERY basic. There is lots more to it. Happy learning!
