The US never made gold quarters. For one thing, they'd be worth hundreds of dollars so it wouldn't make any financial sense to put them in circulation at 25¢ each! What you have is a coin that was plated for one of those "special collectibles" sets sold on TV and in the backs of popular magazines. The coins underneath are worth exactly a quarter, the gold plating is worth only a few cents, the package is a couple of bucks. The rest of the $25 to $100 price covers nothing but advertising and hype.
'25' means that it twenty-five karat gold. -Jonhis NO!!!! Pure gold by definition can only be UP TO 24 karat. The karat marking on an item is how many parts out of 24 is pure gold, the rest being alloy mix. Thus a 14 karat item is 14 parts PURE gold and 10 parts alloy ( copper, zinc, silver , or nickle) . A 14 karat ,14k item is 58.5% pure gold ( 14 divided by 24) . 25 on an item has to be something else, for .25 meaning 1/4 diamond or a style number , etc
The carat or karat (US) refers to the purity of gold. 24 kt is 100% gold, but is too soft to be made into jewelry that will last. 18 kt is (18/24) or 75% gold and 25% other metals. 14 karat is 14/24 (about 58 %) gold, and about 42 % other metals. Having the other metals, gives gold jewelry its durability as well as color, depending on what is chosen for the other metals. Carats for diamonds refer to the weight of the diamond. 1 ct is 200 milligrams or 1/142 ounce.

It isn't gold, it is gold plated. It is worth 25 cents. It is a damaged coin from a collector's perspective. It was not done at the mint.
I really doubt if you have a 'coin' of that size, but 25 ounces of gold would be worth $20,000 - $24,000.
No US Mint has ever struck a 25 cent gold coin.
Check that coin again. The US never minted a $25 gold piece, and the last year for gold coinage was 1932.
The value of this coin is based on the spot price of gold at time of sale. A $25.00 coin is one half ounce of gold so value is half of spot price.
