Start with a soft colour scheme, pale, wind and sun bleached colours are best, blues, tans, and aquas work well.

Add light fabric, "faded" gingham or cottons on windows etc.

Framed pieces, either photos, prints, paintings or shadow boxes with with sea shells, driftwood or shorelines on the wall will enhance the look.

he furnishings will do well with a distressed paint finish (beach houses and cottages usually have old well used furnishings).

As for the desk, pick an old wooden desk, or even an old wooden kitchen table (in this case you may need to adjust the table height), give it a distressed white-washed finish. Add your personal needs (computer, phone etc).

For light I would suggest one of those clear glass based lamps that you can add things into. In this case white sand, a few beach rocks/glass, some sea shells and maybe a bit of driftwood (depending on the size of the base) will add to "the look".

Don't neglect your floors, cotton rag rugs or small area rugs will continue the beach house look and give your toes something to rest on as well as help to define the separate spaces in the room.

Think of your favourite cottage or beach getaway and draw from that.
