Generally, an haematoma will eventually dissolve. If it becomes hard, you can have it surgically removed, but if it's just a bruise, it should go away within a week.

To treat haematomas on other areas of the body (not on your lip!), you can use a steroid cream like Hirudoid. This makes the haematoma dissolve faster, which means the actual bruise that you can see disappears faster. You can't use steroid creams on your lips etc., as it's too risky and you may ingest some.

If the haematoma becomes hard, visit your doctor again and get a referral to a surgeon to have it removed. Otherwise, don't fret about it. We are always more conscious of things than other people are. Nobody else has probably taken any notice. It's just a bruise, no big deal :)
