Many television stations have been using digital signals for at least 30 years. They turned them into analog signals at the antenna for broadcast. Now they are simply leaving them in their original form.

How is an analog signal used in a tv?
In standard definition TV sets, analog covers most anything picture related plus the audio, once the FM signal is demodulated. In the new HDTV (digital sets) about the only portion of the TV is the sound system once it's been separated from the digital audio stream.
Difference between analog video and digital video?
analog video is generally a type of video form in which we have numerous waves in terms of crests and troughs in a continuous manner upside-down on X axis whereas, in digital video we have many bars that are upawrds and then downwards on X axis in a continuous manner that also includes two types of binary bits, either 0 or 1.
Do Analog signals require more bandwidth or digital signals?
An analog signal that is digitized without any signal processing will require more bandwidth than the original analog signal. However, television signals are commonly compressed to remove large amounts of data from the digital signal. As an example, an HD video signal in its raw format in a television studio uses 1483 megabits per second (1.483Gbit). By the time the signal is broadcast to viewers, it has been compressed to as little as 5Mbit per second - less than one percent of the original signal data rate. This is far lower than an equivalent HD analog signal would be. The dramatic reduction in the data rate relies on complex processing that discards some detail of the image that are not important. It also examines every frame of the image and sends information only on the parts of the image that have changed. If a background is static, then only the moving parts of the foreground are updated. This is one of many techniques used to compress signals. Together, they do a remarkable job of delivering an image that a viewer thinks is as good as the original bt with a fraction of the bandwidth requirement.
What is wrong if the cruise doesn't work on your 1996 Chevy Cavalier even after the module has been replaced?
Most likely one of the cables is loose or broken. On mine the cable came lose inside of the turn signal lever so the module wouldn't get the signal that it had been turned on.

The date that analog services are being turned off depends on the country and the region. In the US, analog television services were turned off in 2009 for most of the major channels. An exception has been made for local and community channels who have a longer period to make the switch. In the UK, analog transmissions are being switched off over a period of years. The first was turned off in 2009 and the final analog transmitter is scheduled for switch off in 2012. As the services in these and other countries are being phased out over a period of time, there is no single answer to the question. The national broadcasting regulators for each country have information on specific services and regions so they are the best source for accurate and up to date information.
Why has tv reception been changed to digital?
In digital there is a signal threshold below which dropout (pixelation) occurs. When an analogue signal degrades the picture just gets 'snowy'. However, digital reception which is running alongside analogue is at quite a low level to prevent interference with the analogue channels and appears more susceptible to weather interference. When the analogue signals are turned off the digital signal is boosted to give maximum coverage and will deliver a better service all round.
Can you use old antena with converter box to get HD on your anolog tv?
For most people, their old antenna will work just fine. Don't let the people at the electronics store fool you, there is no such thing as an "HD antenna." There is nothing special that needs to be done to an antenna to receive HD signals. In fact, many of the antennas that are being marketed as "HD antennas" are inferior UHF-only antennas that receive a smaller set of signals than your old antenna. However, some people who were barely receiving an analog signal may need to buy a better antenna. Also, if the location of the digital transmitter has changed or the signal strength of the TV station has changed, you may need to re-aim or replace your old antenna. Simply plug the old antenna into the converter box and then plug the converter box into your old TV where the antenna used to go and you will be fine. The converter box will tune in a digital station (some digital stations are HD, some are not) and convert the digital signal into an old-fashioned analog standard definition signal and feed it into your old analog TV. You will not be able to watch shows in HD on your old analog TV, but you will be able to watch a version of the HD broadcast that has been converted into Standard Definition (SD) for you. You will be able to watch all of the digital stations including the HD ones but you will see them in Standard Definition. Standard Definition is 480i. Digital to Analog converter boxes receive all tv transmissions of 1080P , 1080i , 720P , 480P , 480i and coverts them ALL to 480i to watch on a standard definition NTSC Analog TV.

That has been a slow process over the past 30 years. There is still analog recording occuring, but it is dying out.
