Socially, anorexia is greatly harming our society. It is a little nagging bug on the back of society that shows us how destructive we (and the ideals) are becoming. For a perosn suffereing from anorexia, social problems can happen like isolation and depression, too.

Anorexia affects the functions of society on an interaction-based level. Eating disorders are often looked down upon as something taboo or shameful, and are often kept secret. People with eating disorders often isolate themselves from the negative effetcs of society that may have also contributed ot their disorder as well.

What was the old meaning of the word 'anorexia'?

I suppose you mean the literal meaning of anorexia? Today's culture defines anorexia as a disease in which someone deliberately starves themselves. The actual meaning of anorexia though is "without appetite." When attempting to form a diagnosis, a doctor might describe a patient as suffering from anorexia but that only means that they have no appetite. They aren't trying to deliberately starve to achieve a thinner body.
