It's happened several times:

  • 1969 New York Mets and New York Jets.
  • 1970 Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Colts.
  • 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • 2004 Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

New York, Pittsburgh and Baltimore are the only three *cities* to have both won the Superbowl and the World Series in the same year.

Every team that has ever won the World Series, never won the Super Bowl.

As of May, 2008 there is only one player that has played in a Super Bowl and a World Series and that is Deion Sanders. Sanders played in Super Bowl XXIX with the 49ers and Super Bowl XXX with the Cowboys and in the 1992 World Series with the Atlanta Braves.
